Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Degree Program

What is Biomedical Engineering?

Biomedical Engineering (BME) is a discipline that advances knowledge in engineering, biology, and medicine to improve human health through cross-disciplinary activities integrating the engineering sciences with biomedical sciences and clinical practice. Students work in the development of new devices, algorithms, processes, and systems that advance biology and medicine and improve medical practice and health care delivery. Many students chose BME because it is people-oriented.

Careers in Biomedical Engineering

The Biomedical engineer is a health care professional and may be called upon to design instruments and devices, to bring together knowledge from many sources to develop new procedures, or to carry out research to acquire knowledge needed to solve new problems. Biomedical engineers are employed in industry, hospitals, research facilities, medical institutions, education, and government regulatory agencies.
