Funding | Fellowships
Students cover the cost of tuition and living expenses in one of three ways, a fellowship from either BME at IUPUI or the Integrative Graduate Education and Training (IGERT) award that spans both the IUPUI and Purdue campuses, working as a research assistant in a faculty member's laboratory and personal financial investment. There are a limited number of positions each year in the first two funding categories. IUPUI fellowships are awarded to the students with the best skill set and research interests that are compatible with BME faculty. The fellowships are awarded for one year with the expectation that the student will team up with a faculty mentor before the second year of study. Also, it is not uncommon for a new graduate student to cover the cost of tuition and other expenses by working part-time in a campus-related position or as a research technician. The later serving as an excellent into an investigator's laboratory.
IUPUI Fellowships in BME:
Awarded based upon the applicant's academic credentials, research interests and standardized test scores.
IGERT Fellowship in BME:
The IGERT is administered through the BME Department on the West Lafayette campus. The award is through the National Science Foundation and intended to develop a cross-disciplinary graduate program in the biomedical engineering field. The IU medical center complex and the BME program at IUPUI are partners in this newly established program.
Faculty Sponsor:
Perspective students are encouraged to contact individual
BME faculty members to discuss their research interests and possible fellowship support.
Interested students should contact individual faculty for opportunities.
