"I had many opportunities available through E&T Careers when I started looking for an internship or co-op. There were a lot of positions available at many different companies. I was able to choose which company would be the best fit for me. The resume reviews were very helpful in improving my resume. I think that the office is doing a wonderful job, and I appreciate all the hard work that everyone does to ensure that I have opportunities available to me. Thank you for your assistance.”

“My internship at Legacy Photography has been such an awesome experience. I never saw myself applying my graphic design skills at a photography studio, but I love what I do here. When you are in school your learning is a bit detached – you don’t feel like you are a graphic designer or whatever you want to be until after you graduate. Through an internship experience, you begin to understand how what you do affects others and how your work is used. Because of my internship, I feel like I’m a graphic designer. I’ve honed in on my skill. I know what I’m doing, and it’s nice to have real work experience to back it up.”
Rebecca McGee
Co-op: Rebecca McGee
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Company: Stanley Security Solutions
“I was really excited to get a call from Stanley Security Solutions in the fall after I attended a career fair that was put on by IUPUI’s School of Engineering and Technology. I was invited in for an interview and before I knew it, I was starting my co-op position. At Stanley, my co-op is very extensive and has three sessions that gradually build upon each other. The first session is a hands-on introduction session where I learn about locks through testing, and that’s what I’m doing now. I work in the test lab and take locks off the line and perform standardized testing. Testing is actually very interesting, and there are so many different types of tests. I really like testing some of the prototypes that the design engineers come up with. Once I complete the first session, the second session will show me how a part is made and the third will go more in-depth on how a product is made. I know that in each session I’ll be learning a lot as I face new challenges. On a personal level, my co-op has shown me that I have a work ethic beyond just being a student. I have learned that I can not only handle but also enjoy a full-time job. My co-op has given me a lot more motivation to want to work hard to finish school. I appreciate being able to work independently and clearly see the benefit of doing my job at Stanley.”
Josh Corken

Intern: Josh Corken
Major: Computer Graphics Technology
Company: Boost Media Entertainment
“My internship with Boost Media Entertainment started after I went to one of the career fairs on campus. I was looking to intern for a computer graphics company and not just an organization that needed a graphic designer. I really wanted to work for a company where I would be working with others who had a passion for computer graphics, so we could share ideas and give each other constructive feedback. Boost was the perfect fit. My internship quickly threw me into real world projects with deadlines and challenges. I’ve had the opportunity to work with other graphic artists and web developers and see how my work is received. Working with a variety of clients in a fast-paced creative environment has allowed me to have some incredible experiences. Through my internship, I have taken my computer graphic skills to a completely new level. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience to prepare me for projects in school, freelance work and my future. My internship was supposed to end awhile back but it has now transformed into a part-time job, which is great! With IUPUI’s campus so close to downtown, going to school and work at the same time couldn’t be any more convenient. If I were to offer advice to incoming students, I would tell them to join an organization or two or three, network with peers and faculty and get as involved as possible. I’d also tell them to look for an internship early. An internship gives you the opportunity to advance your skill set and learn more about what you really want to do. Plus if you are a computer graphics technology major, work samples from your internship often make great portfolio pieces.”
Matt Ragozzino
Co-op: Matt Ragozzino
Major: Electrical Engineering
Company: Indianapolis Power and Light Company
“When I came to IUPUI, I was an ambitious freshman and I was determined to get a job. First, I started working for a Frozen Custard stand, but then I decided I wanted to do something that would help me prepare for my future career. I started talking to different people about getting a job and really gave some thought to what I wanted to do and what experiences I wanted to have. I went to the Career Services office in the E&T building and talked to Beverly Radloff, Career Services Specialist. She was a big help in giving me some direction on where I could look for the position I wanted. I sent out resumes and went to the Career Connection Fair. Then about 3 or 4 weeks before summer started I saw that a new IPL co-op opportunity was listed on the Career Services website. I interviewed and received a job offer, and I’m now proud to say that I have a co-op with Indianapolis Power and Light Company. IPL has a very strong co-op program. You get to experience things in your own department, but you are also educated in other areas. I’m learning a lot about the different aspects of power systems, and it’s really interesting. I’m extremely happy to be in the position I’m in.”
Kyle Morin

Intern: Kyle Morin
Major: Computer Graphics Technology
Company: IndyCar
“I started my internship in mid-February, and I love working with IndyCar. I’ve been a big racing fan my whole life, so it was really amazing to land this as my first internship. I was recommended for my position by one of my professors, which was very humbling and showed me that my performance in class could bring great opportunities and really impact the experiences I have outside of class. At IndyCar I work under the New Media Manager in the Marketing Department. We handle both internal and external communications. As we geared up for racing season this year, we were of course really busy, but it was exciting to be a part of the rush. I worked to design e-mails that were sent out to our fans and sponsors, and I learned a lot from having to design within the IndyCar brand parameters on stringent deadlines. My internship experience has been incredible. I can’t wait to add all of my new IndyCar graphics to my portfolio.”
Darrell Goodwin
Co-op: Darrell Goodwin
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Company: Rolls Royce
My cooperative education assignment with Rolls-Royce Corporation has been a dream come true. I have always been passionate about aerospace, so naturally the opportunity to apply the engineering principles I’m learning at IUPUI to aircraft propulsion systems is very rewarding to me. Not only do I get to work with some of the world’s brightest minds on extraordinarily exciting high-tech projects, but I also get to have a lot of fun and distinguish the grand importance of my education. I can identify no better way to fuse an engineering education with an engineering career than through a co-op or internship. Although it may extend your graduation by a semester or two, a student engineering job will put you several years ahead of other graduates in distinction and experience. My best advice to anyone pursuing an engineering degree is to visit career services, E&T Careers, and the Career Connection and secure an internship or Co-op as soon as possible; that’s what I did and it has changed my life immensely in all the best ways.
“When looking for my internship, I looked on the E&T Careers website, submitted a resume and started my job search. When I was searching, I saw a posting for a position with the IUPUI Architect’s Office and immediately sent my resume. Shortly thereafter I was contacted for an interview, and before I knew it I was starting my internship. Having an on-campus internship was extremely convenient, and I gained a number of valuable skills. I worked under the university interior designer and learned a lot about the project management process. I was able to see how a project was handled from start to finish.
Internships are helpful because they show you things you might not think about when you’re doing a project for class. For instance, there are standards you have to go by and budget constraints you have to work within that you don’t think about as much when you’re putting something together for a class. Yet, these are very real concerns. Through my internship I also got to talk to people and see the value of networking. I interfaced with contractors and others quite often and learned that the relationships you develop with the people you work with are so important. I would love to have another internship experience before I graduate.”
Intern: Adam Hooker
Major: Biomedical Engineering
Company: Orthopaedic Surgery Department at the IU School of Medicine
“My first internship was with the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at the IU School of Medicine where I helped conduct research. I was placed in my position through a program called Life Health Sciences Internships (LHSI) which gives selected sophomores and juniors the opportunity to be paired with a mentor for the year. Through his internship, I had the chance to work with a lot of different doctors and touch on a number of different medical topics. I studied the histology of cells and looked at bones and tried to analyze them based on different readings and analysis. I’ve also been able to work with cell cultures, and a variety of other things. I was exposed to different research techniques and built upon what I’d learned in class. My internship provided an eye-opening experience and allowed me to better understand what my interests are.”
