Faculty and Staff Frequently Asked Questions

What is my e-mail address?
Your e-mail address is a combination of your username and the domain address. If you are faculty or staff, your e-mail address is: username@iupui.edu. The CNC uses this same account for most all computer access needs within the school.

Are there other training opportunities on the IUPUI campus?
UITS provides a free STEPS program. This is open for all faculty, staff, and students on the IUPUI. The other good resource would be the Office for Professional Development

How do I access e-mail from home?
Use Exhange web login link: http://www.exchange.iu.edu. Enter user name. A login dialog box will appear. Enter your user name and password. You will be connected to your personal e-mail account. You may also check the following Adobe PDF file OutlookExpressSetup.pdf which will help you setup Outlook Express for IMAP.

How do I edit my personal website?
E&T faculty by default have websites with the following URL http://www.engr.iupui.edu/~name. This site is accessed at the unix computer etsun (134.68.7.1) in a directory named www off of your home directory. If you have a UNIX account it most generally just your last name. These account passwords need to be maintained separately.

How can I report a computer problem or other problem to CNC?
CNC Help Desk

You will also see an Help Desk Icon on your computers that you can use. This is definitely the best and only way to get timely services.

Does CNC have lab consultants?
Yes. The lab consultant is in room ET109 on the first floor. The CNC Lab consultant provides assistance to students and faculty in the ET109 open lab. The Lab Consultant helps faculty with their questions and hardware issues.

How do I access my G: & H: drive from outside the CNC?
You may want to use the Microsoft Network option to mount a network drive through Microsoft's Network Neighborhood with the following syntax:

\\IN-ENGR-01.ADS.IU.EDU\<logonID$>

LogonID is your campus login account followed by the $. Your authentication for mounting this drive will be ads\LogonID

The path to the G:\ drive is \\IN-ENGR-01.ADS.IU.EDU\groups\folder --> where folder is the name of the folder that you have access to on the G:\ drive. For example CPT faculty may want to access the CPT folder, they would use this path: \\IN-ENGR-01.ADS.IU.EDU\groups\cpt

Then the question arises about slight differences based on your operating system. Here are some quick hints:
Windows 2000: You need to use the link below the mapping entry which is listed as "Connect using a different user name."
Windows 98: Will ask for authentication when the connection is attempted. A small window will pop up asking for the Login ID and Password.
Windows XP: Works very much like 2000, however, you may need to switch to the Classic View to figure it out.

We recommend setting up a VPN link. You will probably find that this is the only way you can mount your drives via a Cable Modem connection. http://www.engr.iupui.edu/cnc/VPNwithXP.doc
