Instructions for Installing a Printer on your Computer



These instructions are written for Windows NT only.You will need to know the name and type of printer you are installing and whether the printer you are installing is Novell or Windows based. You can contact the CNC Help Desk if you do not have this information available.

Step 1

Click on the Start button. Go to Settings, then to Printers.




Step 2

Double-click on Add Printer.




Step 3

Click on the Network printer, then Next.




Step 4

Double-click on Novell Directory Services.




Step 5

Double-click on O=et option.




Step 6

Find the printer that you need installed. You may need to look at the printer to see what type of printer it is. The printers are categorized by department and type. Highlight the printer and click OK.

               NOTE: There will be two options for each printer. Select the option that does not include _printer.

Step 7

You will encounter a message allowing you to install printer drivers. Click OK.

Step 8

The ADD Printer Wizard will appear. Click on Have Disk….

Step 9

The file window will appear. Replace the drive letter A:\ with G:\common\printers then click Browse.

Step 10

You will need to know the printer type here to get the correct printer drivers. After you have found the correct printer, double-click on the folder.



NOTE: At this point, depending on the printer you are installing , the screens will look different. Therefore, screen captures will not be included for the following steps.

Step 11

An .inf file will be detected automatically. Click on Open.

Step 12

You will see a screen, similar to Step 9, indicating that you have found a destination, click OK.

Step 13

A window will appear displaying the make and model of the printer that you are installing.
Highlight it and click OK.

Step 14

A login screen may appear, use your own name and password.

Step 15

This screen gives you the option of using this printer as a default. This option is based on your preference.

Step 16

Your printer is installed, click Finish.
