  2. I think I am interested in your program but I'm not positive. How can I find out more?
    • Call the Department Secretary at 274-2413 or email her at dilpatto@iupui.edu and give her your name and mailing address. She will forward you an information packet about our Department and programs.
    • Check out our website: www.engr.iupui.edu/cnt .
  3. Can I come down to campus, look around, and meet with an advisor?
    • General Campus tours can be arranged by calling 317-274-8482.
    • After you have received an information packet from our Department, you can call the Department Secretary, 274-2413, for information about seeing an advisor in our Department. Tour of department facilities and labs can also be arranged for this time.
    • If you have classes transferring in from another University, it is better to wait until Admissions has processed your application and decided which of your previous courses have been transferred in to IUPUI. Then, when you visit with an advisor, he will have the information available to him and will be in a position to give you more specific advice.
  4. Who do I contact to apply to IUPUI and the School of Engineering and Technology?
    • Call Admissions, 274-4591, for an application.
    • Check out the IUPUI website at www.iupui.edu .
  5. Can I get any financial help?
    • Our Department offers several scholarships. Most are for students who have been here for several semesters. They are based on various factors: GPA, student activity, location, student motivation, or financial need.
    • The Financial Aid Office, 274-4162, will be able to advise you on other opportunities for financial assistance.
  6. I only want to take one class. Do I have to be admitted to IUPUI and the School of Engineering and Technology?
    • You do have to be admitted to IUPUI in order to take any of our classes.
    • You do not have to be admitted into the School of Engineering and Technology in order to take our classes but you do have to meet the pre-requisites for the individual class you want to take.
  7. When do classes start? Can I start in the middle?
    • Fall classes start about the third week in August; spring classes start early in January.
    • You may start either semester but must be registered for the class by the end of the first week. You cannot start in the middle of the semester.
    • We only offer a limited number of classes in the summer sessions.
  8. I have a degree from or classes completed at a non-IU campus. Will they transfer?
    • Admissions makes all the decisions about which courses will transfer into IUPUI.
    • After the courses have been transferred into IUPUI, our Department will see how your courses best substitute into our programs.
    • If Admissions doesn't transfer a course, it might be possible to get special credit for the course by testing out of it or by credentials. See your advisor for information.
  9. I am currently a Purdue West Lafayette (PUWL) student in good standing. When can I start taking classes? My classes will transfer into the program, won't they?
    • You must apply and be admitted to IUPUI in order to take any of our classes, even though ours is a Purdue school; also, transfer is not an automatic process.
    • Most or all of your courses from Purdue WL should transfer into IUPUI.
  10. I am currently enrolled in another degree-seeking program at IUPUI, but I want to transfer into the Department of Construction Technology. What do I have to do? Will the classes I have already taken apply to the CNT program?
    • Come to our Department and fill out a C007 form, Program Change Request Form. This will initiate the change. You will have an answer in about three weeks time as to whether you have been accepted into our Department. After you have been admitted, you will meet with an advisor to see how your courses fit into the program you choose.
  11. My math isn't too good. Can I still get into the School of Engineering and Technology?
    • In most instances, if your math isn't up to the standard set by the School of Engineering & Technology, you will be placed in University College until you have fulfilled the math requirements. During this time, you may take any of our courses for which you satisfy the prerequisites.
  12. I have been working in the field for 15 years. Can I get any credit for my experience?
    • Such experience is valued very highly. It is possible to get credit for a course either by means of "credit by credentials" or "credit by examination" for some of our courses. See your advisor for what is involved.
  13. Do you have any distance learning courses?
    • We are not currently engaged with distance learning.
  14. I want to become an architect. Can I do that at IUPUI?
    • IUPUI does not have a School of Architecture. Ball State and Notre Dame are the only schools in Indiana that have one. Ohio State, University of Cincinnati, University of Illinois, and University of Chicago have schools of architecture.
  15. If I take classes here, will they transfer to any of those schools?
    • Only the accepting school can make that determination. You might try contacting them and asking them if they will accept our courses.
  16. I want to be a civil engineer. Will I be one when I leave IUPUI?
    • IUPUI does not offer a civil engineering program. Purdue West Lafayette has that program.
    • You may be able to take two or three semesters of classes here and then transfer to West Lafayette. Contact Freshman Engineering, 274-2633, for more information.
  17. I work full time. When will I be able to take classes? How long will it take me to finish the Associate and Bachelors degrees?
    • Most of our 100 and 200 level courses are offered in an alternating fashion either during the day or in the evening every semester. Some courses are offered every semester but might meet daytime in the fall and nighttime in the spring. Some of the Junior/Senior level courses are only offered once a year and usually alternate day/night. Your advisor can give you more details.
    • Occasionally we have Saturday classes. Some electives are offered by Weekend College and Community Learning Network over the weekends.
    • The associate degrees, ART, CET, and INTR, involve 66 credit hours. Bachelor degrees, CNT with Surveying or Construction option, involve an additional 62 credit hours. Most courses are 3 credit hours each.
  18. How long it will take one to complete a degree?
    • This will depend on the course load undertaken each semester and varies from person to person depending on their work and other commitments
  19. I am in University College; when will I be able to get accepted to the Department of Construction Technology?
    • In general, the Department of Construction Technology requires that the student be at a level to take Math 153 to be admitted to the Department. This means that if you have completed Math 111 or Math 119 or have taken a math placement test and tested to a level above these two courses and have no deficiency problems due to placement test results for English or Reading, you should be able to seek admittance to the Department. When you fulfill this criteria, please notify us immediately so that we can look into your status.
  20. I am in University College (UCOL) and I am being advised by UCOL advisers. Can I also seek guidance for my coursework from advisors of the Department of Construction Technology?
    • You may and preferably should seek guidance from Department advisors if you have made up your mind to pursue a degree in our Department so that our advisors can also help you with the study plan you will be pursuing upon completing your work at UCOL.
