Description
The purpose of this course is to enrich and to enhance the student's knowledge and appreciation of business activities on the World Wide Web in areas such as: technologies relevant to electronic commerce, keeping up with what's happening in electronic commerce, and future trends on the Internet.

Objectives
  • Identify the key players in the Internet industry
  • Distinguish the strengths and weaknesses of the Internet industry players
  • Explain the basic technologies of the World Wide Web, including HTTP and HTML
  • Explain the emerging technologies that are relevant to electronic commerce, including multicasting and XML
  • Identify the motivation for using XML, especially in business-to-business e-commerce
  • Explain the concept of public key cryptography for encryption and authentication
  • Explain mechanisms for facilitating e-commerce, especially digital certificates, digital signatures, and digital rights management
  • Identify mechanisms that threaten privacy, e.g. cookies and Web bugs
