Interior Design Technology (INTR) Program

What is Interior Design?

Interior design is a discipline which teams with architecture, engineering, construction, art, and other trades to create interior spaces that are both beautiful and efficient.  The profession is qualified by education, experience and examination to plan space, implement building codes, specify and design lighting, position electrical and mechanical systems, assemble computer generated drawings and graphics, choose materials, and select finishes and furniture for both commercial and residential structures.

Is Interior Design a good career choice for me?

This particular field would be attractive to those interested in enhancing the function and characteristics of building interiors for the purpose of improving quality of life, increasing productivity, and protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public.

Interior Design Program at IUPUI

The Interior Design Technology program at IUPUI takes a multidisciplinary approach with its curriculum, partnering with several other programs within the University, including the Herron School of Art, Architectural Technology, Computer Graphics Technology, Organizational Leadership and Supervision and Construction Engineering Management Technology, to offer a competitive degree necessary to elevate oneself in this continuously changing field.

Faculty members in the Interior Design Technology program are diverse, industry experienced professionals with advanced degrees and specialized training.  With 18 students or less in the majority of classrooms, one-on-one learning and mentoring are an integral part of the student’s learning experience.
