Musicianship Skills 3 (Critical Listening)

MUS-A 231 / 2 Cr.

1. To develop interest and practical skills in critical listening.
2. To develop audio and musical analysis skills as integral parts of the listening experience.
3. To develop a common vocabulary for the discussion of parameters relating to sound quality including: timbre, bandwidth, spectral balance, dynamics, distortion, stereo imaging, inclusion of ambience and/or reverberation, etc.
4. To audition & analyze a broad range of recordings featuring diverse musical styles and production approaches.
5. To develop interest in and understanding of “high-end” audio, from both recording and playback perspectives.
