MUS- P 200 / 1-2 Cr.

  • for MAT Department keyboard majors, qualified elective students by consent of instructor
  • 1 credit (weekly 30-minute lessons) or 2 credits (weekly 50-minute lessons)
  • create and follow through with a balanced plan reflecting BSMT progressive standards, aimed at achieving goals in the following areas:

            - repertoire preparation/performance

            - applied music theory, aural skills, and improvisation

            - sight reading

            - technique development through exercises and etudes

            - technology-related keyboard skills

  • develop awareness, intention, and strategic skills for effective, productive practice
  • understand the music you're playing in relation to historical/cultural context, principals of compositional construction, make intelligent comparisons with other music, and engage with the expressive intent of the music/composer
  • develop independence in researching what makes your music 'tick', what it's connected to, how you can use it as a source for creative ideas
  • be able to speak convincingly and in depth about the selections you work with
