Prof. Jie Chen Received a Grant from NIH
Dr. Chen, Chair and Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and his team were awarded a grant for their research on investigation of optimal orthodontic treatment strategies by the National Institutes of Dental Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). The team consists of faculty members from various schools/departments, Drs. Katherine Kula, Serkis Isikbay, Rodrigo Viecilli, Thomas Katona, Michael Kowolic (Dentistry) and Dr. Hiroki Yokota (BME). A four year $1.26M will enable the team to clinically evaluate two widely used treatment strategies for space closure, a common clinical case. It will also allow the team to identify potential unwanted side-effects and find the causes. The research aims at finding the treatment that will significantly increase the treatment efficiency, reduce the unwanted side-effects, and eventually reduce the cost.
