The Department of Mechanical Engineering gives the following scholarships and awards to outstanding mechanical engineering students each year.
Willis Carrier Scholarship
$4,500
Awarded to an incoming outstanding woman or minority student pursuing an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. A 3.2 GPA is required for renewal. Recipients usually receive a summer internship opportunity in Carrier.
Melba Schumacher Endowment Scholarships
Amount and number varies.
Awarded to incoming freshman students enrolled in mechanical engineering who graduated from a central Indiana public high school. Consideration is given to academic achievement and financial need.
Central Indiana Technical and Environmental Society Scholarship
$500
Awarded to a US citizen, preferably Indiana resident, with financial need, demonstrated academic and service performance and faculty recommendation. Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours.
Cummins Company Award for Outstanding Woman Scholar
$1000
Awarded to an outstanding female student in Mechanical Engineering with a high GPA and faculty recommendation.
Cummins Company Award for Outstanding Mechanical Engineering Junior
$1000
Awarded to an outstanding junior with a high GPA and faculty recommendation.
Raytheon Systems Company Award for Outstanding Mechanical Engineering Senior
$1000
Awarded to an outstanding graduating senior with a high GPA and faculty recommendation.
Rolls-Royce Best Capstone Design Award
$500
Awarded to winning teams in ME 462 Capstone Design course in previous Fall and/or Spring semesters.
ChiaYee Ang and Mark E. Hemphill Outstanding Scholar Award
$1000
Awarded to a student of sophomore or junior status or in his/her fourth year for BS/MS with leadership roles in professional societies and student organizations. Must possess at least a 3.3 GPA.
Aydin Ungan Award for Outstanding Mechanical Engineering Graduate Student
$500
Awarded to a Master's degree thesis student in mechanical engineering with considerations given to GPA, publications, presentations, and Ph.D. interest.
