Service Learning Assistant Scholarship

The Center for Service and Learning supports faculty in their community involvement through teaching, research, or service. CSL offers campus-based scholarship funds to support the educational expenses for students (undergraduate or graduate) to become Service Learning Assistants. Service Learning Assistants may assist faculty with service learning classes (e.g., implementation, assessment), community-based research (e.g., action research, applied research) or other forms of the scholarship of engagement (e.g., completing a scholarly project for a community agency). Through the involvement of Service Learning Assistants, it is anticipated that more IUPUI students will become involved in the community and that faculty can more readily address community needs.

Faculty may apply for a Service Learning Assistant scholarship that is awarded to a qualified student who is identified by the faculty member. Service Learning Assistant scholarships can be awarded for either $750 (expectation that the student be involved for 5 hours per week for the semester), or $1,500 (expectation of 10 hours of involvement per week for the semester). To date, faculty in the School of Science, School of Education, School of Business, and School of Public and Environmental Affairs have involved students in their work through this scholarship program.
