Meet Current Student, Kadé Diallo

Kadé is a student studying Mechanical Engineering

Why did you choose to study at IUPUI?
I chose IUPUI because it offered a Purdue degree in mechanical engineering. The School’s location in Indianapolis has offered me various opportunities to network and find positions that will further both my academic and professional career. Why Mechanical Engineering? Engineering works for me because I enjoy problem-solving and being creative. I specifically chose mechanical engineering because as a child, I’ve always been hands-on and would continuously ask how and why things work the way they do.

At IUPUI I’m involved in:
  • School of Engineering and Technology Outreach Student Ambassador
  • Freshmen Engineering Mentor & Teacher’s Assistance (TA)
  • Day Director of Preparing Outstanding Women for Engineering Roles (POWER) Camp
  • Undergraduate Research Assistant at Eugene & Marilyn Glick Eye Institute
  • First Robotics Competition Mentor
  • Alpha Lambda Delta & Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies
  • Secretary of the Applied Computing Club
  • Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Member

My career aspirations:
I am very passionate about being a productive member of society and giving back; with that said, I’d like to apply my knowledge and skills as an engineer working for establishments and companies that I believe make a difference. My aspiration at the moment is to work for organizations such as the U.S. Department of Defense, Zimmer-Biomet, Eli Lilly, or Roche because I can wake up every morning with the satisfaction of knowing that what I do either protects or improves the lives of individuals in our society.

My college experience has:
My college experience has given me many different opportunities to figure out what I want once I graduate. I have learned a lot as a student within the classroom but, I have also gained many skills outside of it as well. My favorite thing about IUPUI: My favorite thing about IUPUI is that it has provided me with many opportunities to expand my vision of the “college experience.” Academically, I have had many genuine instructors and professors who have helped me when struggling with a difficult course and have even encouraged that I challenge myself to the point where I’ve now presented my research not only here on campus, but also in places such as Columbus, Ohio; Seattle, Washington; and soon Baltimore, Maryland. My advice for new students: The advice I would give to new students is to take advantage of as many services, events, and programs the school has to offer. Yes, classes and grades are important but networking and gaining skills outside the classroom is just as necessary for success once your time here comes to an end. Michael S. Dell, the founder & CEO of DELL Inc., once said, “You don’t have to be a genius or a visionary or even a college graduate to be successful, you just need a framework and a dream” and I must say, thanks to IUPUI my framework continues to grow stronger and better every year.  The dream of course...I had to find and bring myself.
