Dean's Industrial Advisory Council

Message from the Chair

Dear Industry Partners and Friends,

I have been a proud member of the Dean’s Industrial Advisory Council (DIAC) for the past 15 years.  During that time, I have watched the DIAC grow and evolve in impressive ways.   One thing that that has not changed is the cooperative relationship that the DIAC members have with the School of Engineering and Technology.  I am honored to serve as the 2015-16 DIAC Chair. I look forward to working with the DIAC sub-committees, the School of Engineering and Technology, the students and the Department Advisory Boards.

Diversity is essential to the work of the DIAC.  I believe the diverse composition of the DIAC allows for a variety of creative perspectives to be shared. This collaborative approach allows us to develop out-of-the-box recommendations that address important industry and academic issues facing our faculty, students, alumni, and industry partners.

I know we all want to improve in whatever we do--and we want to compete at the highest level.  Engineering and technology professionals like to analyze data, develop new ideas and products, and solve problems.  We strive to push the limits of technology.  How does the School of Engineering and Technology stay ahead of the curve and develop top talent for both today and in the future?  How do we better prepare students for life after graduation when they are developing solutions for real world problems?  These are a few of the questions we need to continually ask ourselves if we are to be of the best and highest service to those we serve.

Much of our work is done through our active sub-committees.  We must foster productive, diverse sub-committees of comprised of high level decision makers from industry, so that we can benefit from their wealth of experience and insight.  We ask each of our sub-committees to focus on key areas each year that support the school’s long term goals. This ensures that we can harness their best thinking and create actionable, sustainable outcomes that benefit this great institution.
