2010 Creative Design at CAD Camp
Dates: June 27 – July 2, 2010 for Campers Entering Grades 9-12
Web site: www.umaine.edu/met/cadcamp/
At the University of Maine Creative Design at CAD Camp you’ll have fun while you design your own wall hanging using computer-aided design software! We know you’ll really like the other kids who attend. You’ll get to know your new camp friends on
the ropes courses, on the climbing wall, canoeing, and just hanging out. In the computer-aided design sessions you’ll experience some of the latest professional 3D modeling software. The computer classroom is air-conditioned with up-to-date
computers and “comfy chairs.” You’ll get lots of individual help from our team of CAD faculty professionals and returning campers. You’ll leave with new computer skills and career training - and you’ll have so much fun along the way you\'ll want to
learn more!
Scholarship applications can be downloaded from the web site. Here’s what 2009 campers wrote to our sponsors including the Maine Department of Transportation, Bentley Systems, and the College of Engineering:
In the beginning I didn\'t really sign myself up for this camp, my mom did. I\'m so glad that she did. I had a great time. Meeting all these new people, and designing things I never thought I would be able to do. The whole CAD program was really
interesting and fun. But I have to admit that my favorite thing was the Maine Bound part. I like the outdoors and all the new things I got to try like: the zip line, the ropes course, rock climbing, and all the other group activities. This was an
amazing experience. And I really want to come back next year.
Sincerely,
Katherine
I hope you continue to fund this program, for this training is the first step to many careers. I love the physical activities and the CAD training including the instructors and assistants. The dorms are good and the food too.
Sincerely,
Robert

As you may know, each summer INSPIRE, the Institute for P-12 Engineering Research and Learning at Purdue University, hosts a one week professional development academy for elementary educators who are interested in learning about innovative methods for integrating engineering learning into their classrooms. The Summer Academy provides participants with the chance to work alongside engineering and engineering education researchers to learn what engineers do and how they solve problems, and what this means for educating young learners.
At the Academy, teachers get intensive hands-on experience with science and mathematics standards-based engineering curricula that are designed to convey the nature and practice of engineering, while fostering the development of skills necessary for success in life. Teachers are encouraged to personalize the engineering lesson plans and are given the opportunity to practice teaching engineering to young students before carrying their new knowledge into their own classrooms.
This year’s INSPIRE National Academy is being conducted at Purdue’s WL campus, July 18-23, 2010 and is open to teacher teams (5-7) from school districts across the nation. It is a great professional development opportunity for all educators who are able to attend. INSPIRE covers nearly all travel costs, and we provide $750 stipends to each participating educator.
There is a March 1st deadline for online team applications to attend the Summer Academy. We would love to have several Indiana teams take part!
