An already banner evening got even sweeter on Friday (Apr. 12) night as senior Mechanical Engineering student and women's swimmer Lizzie Bourgeois was named IUPUI's Most Outstanding Female Student at the 14th annual Top 100 Dinner at the Indianapolis Marriott. All total, the Athletics Department had 11 representatives among the top 100 and four recognized among the respective top 10 lists.

Bourgeois becomes the third IUPUI student-athlete to be named Most Outstanding Student, joining Carrie Lightfoot (2000) and Tiffany Kyser (2002, 2003).

The Cincinnati, Ohio-native has maintained a 3.76 grade point average while majoring in Mechanical Engineering and is a three-time All-Summit League performer. All total, she holds six school records and ranks among the program's all-time leaders in podium finishes.

Since coming to Indianapolis, she's been very active in the Engineering and Technology (E&T) community. Through leadership roles in IUPUI’s Preparing Outstanding Women for Engineering Roles (POWER) Camp, Project Lead the Way, and in the E&T’s Student Council, she is an advocate for women in engineering and technology. She has also been an active participant in the IUPUI Regatta and the Engineering and Technology’s Career Fair the last three years.

This year was the second straight year she was selected among IUPUI's Top 100 students and she was the 2012 Michael A. Carroll Scholarship recipient. Last summer, she did an internship with Indianapolis-based Allison Transmission, working to create an interactive transmission catalog for customers while also assisting in redesigning of parts and servicing kits.
