ME Professor Receives Honda Grant to Design Safer Automobiles

Researchers at the IUPUI Engineering Design Research Laboratory under the direction of Prof. Andrés Tovar and Honda R&D Americas will collaborate in the development of a design optimization methodology to taylor progressive folding in thin-walled tubular structures subjected to dynamic crushing events. The optimized lightweight structures will allow maximum energy absorption and constant reaction force and avoid undesirable buckling modes.
