The IUPUI Motorsports team demonstrated the improvements they had made to the school’s MG racecar at the Sports Car Club of America races at Grattan Raceway, in Michigan last weekend, by bettering their qualifying time by 3 seconds over last year. However, on a weekend when the weather kept sending torrential rain to the track, the advantage lay with their front wheel drive competition. Nonetheless, driver Matt Kurdock persevered to a second place finish.

“The team feels great that our brake system improvements and engine tuning paid off with such a big improvement,” said student team manager, Joe Legan, “Next we have a new engine that we plan to install before our next outing. Everyone is very excited about that.”

IUPUI won the event at Grattan last year. The team’s next outing is tentatively planned for the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in October. Support for the IUPUI Motorsports program’s racing efforts came from AED Motorsports, Hoosier Racing Tires, and Brown’s Oil.
