IUPUI Graduate Student Grant Hankins

IUPUI Graduate Student Grant Hankins

The Motorsports Engineering program at IUPUI aims to train the next generation of engineers for the motorsports industry.  Engineers in this field typically design, analyze and test components, subsystems, systems, and entire cars for high performance characteristics under extreme conditions.  But along with performance related topics such as aerodynamics, power output, and vehicle dynamics, one of the major areas of attention is safety.  The project described in this video is an example of how students in the IUPUI motorsports program are involved in advancing the state of the art in racing safety.   Student Grant Hankins began this work as an undergraduate with his senior project design team, and continued the effort upon his acceptance to graduate school at IUPUI.  On his way to completing his BS and MS degrees, this work has led to an article in an engineering journal, an SAE technical paper, two conference presentations and this video for the Discovery Channel.
