IUPUI student awarded prestigious national scholarship

The School of Engineering and Technology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis announced today that Jay McKinney has been awarded a prestigious national scholarship in the field of healthcare engineering technology management from the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).

“We are thrilled for Jay, who is incredibly deserving of this award,” said David J. Russomanno, dean of the School of Engineering and Technology. “Honors such as this exemplify the caliber of both our students and our academic programs.”

McKinney competed against students from across the nation, demonstrating excellence in his academic work as well as his commitment to the discipline. The awards were presented by Mary Logan, president of AAMI and Phil Gogdill, president of the AAMI Board of Directors and Senior Director of Sterilization and Microbiology at Medtronic, on June 4 at the 2016 AAMI annual awards celebration. AAMI established the scholarship in 2009 to students aspiring to become biomedical equipment technicians and clinical engineers. These scholarships expand access to students who have demonstrated academic excellence, technical aptitude, and commitment to the healthcare technology management field.

McKinney a Cicero, IN native and junior at IUPUI is currently pursuing a degree in healthcare engineering technology management. Following graduation, he wishes to work in the clinical setting as a member of a healthcare team to ensure the safe and effective use of technology in patient care.
