Hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) powertrain usually has a transmission that has two input power sources: an internal combustion engine and battery packages. The transmission may have various configurations and is composed of a set of gears, clutches and shafts. Methods and strategies for rapid design of transmission are developed and implemented by using computer information technology. It realized rapid determination of transmission size, weight, space and create component attributes using CAE tools and store them in our PDM system.

All the work was based on an integrated Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer-Aided-Engineering (CAE), Computer-Aided-Manufacturing (CAM), and Product Data Management (PDM) system. PDM is adopted as the universal integration platform, which provides data sharing and exchange among the design, optimization and simulation modules. The system shortens the design cycle and reduces cost greatly.
