The Computational Mechanics Laboratory(CML) has been formed in
early Fall of 1997 within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IUPUI. This
research laboratory is an integration of the facilities and expertise of the
previous CAD/CAM and Computational Biomechanics Laboratories of the department.
The primary mission of CML is to conduct interdisciplinary research in development
and applications of the finite element method for the solution of problems in
solid mechanics and related fields. With its software and hardware facilities,
the laboratory provides service to other research laboratories in the department.
The software available in the laboratory include PATRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, and
StarCD for interdisciplinary research.
Recent sponsors and/or projects include:
United Technologies/Carrier Electronics, "Development of Fatigue Life
Prediction of Resistor Joints of Control Boards."
The Boeing Company, "Development of Fatigue Life Prediction Models
for Ball Grid Array (BGA) Joints of Electronic Packages."
National Science Foundation, "An Intelligent Structural Damage Assessment
Model."
National Science Foundation, "Three-dimensional Fracture Analysis of Cord-rubber
Composites."
