Laboratory Policy: ME 310-Introduction to Fluid Mechanics

  1. Reports: Reports are vital part of good engineering practice. They permit the organization, condensation, analysis, interpretation, and transmission of meaningful results. For more details see laboratory policies

  2. Preparation and Procedures: Experiments will be conducted in groups under the guidance of the instructor. You are expected to review the material prior to class to expedite completion of the experiment. The instructor may implement pre-lab quizzes if students consistently arrive unprepared for class.

  3. Grading: Lab reports are graded out of 100 points. Failure to use the template will result in the immediate loss of 50 points. Reports are due by midnight two weeks after they were performed, unless otherwise instructed. Late reports will be penalized 10% per day, without exception. There will be no opportunity to make up work which has been missed because of an unexcused absence or tardiness. If conditions develop which cause you to miss laboratory work please contact your lab instructor as soon as possible in advance of the scheduled laboratory.

  4. Laboratory Grades: The laboratory grade will be based on the average grade received for of all the laboratory experiments conducted. The grade for each experiment will be based on the following: (a) Written reports and (b) Instructor's evaluation of each student's work in the laboratory (participation in discussion, laboratory procedures, inquisitiveness, etc.).

  5. Satisfactory Laboratory Performance: A laboratory grade in excess of 60 % ("D") or better will be considered satisfactory performance, while a lab grade below 60 % ("F") will be considered to be unsatisfactory. All lab reports must be satisfactorily submitted to pass the lab section of this course.
