GRADUATE PROGRAM

Financial Aid Awards

Mechanical Engineering Department offers financial assistance to top students with excellent academic records and strong potential to make valuable contributions to research.

Financial assistance is awarded in the form of fellowship, research or graduate assistantship, teaching assistantship, partial tuition assistantship, or graduate co-op/ internship. Graduate assistantships may include both research and teaching duties. Teaching assistantships require excellent English language proficiency, which may be tested upon arrival. Fellowships are prestigious scholarships awarded by IUPUI to outstanding in-coming graduate students with expressed commitment to specific area/s of research.

Full financial assistance :

· Fellowship, Research Assistantship, Teaching Assistantship, or Graduate Assistantship.

o Full financial assistance pays tuition fees, student health insurance, and stipend (US$1,100-$1,800 per month, depending on the program and funding).

o The awards are initially for one academic year, and continue up to the second year for MS students, and the fourth year for PhD students, contingent on excellent grades and strong contribution toward sponsored research.

Partial financial assistance :

· Graduate co-op/internship

o Paid full-time or part-time research for one semester or summers at participating local industry partners can provide significant financial support.

· Full or partial waiver of tuition

o Usually in the range of $5,000 to $10,000 for one academic year. This award is used to pay tuition cost only and may continue for the second year, if funds are available and strong grades are maintained. Some awards require teaching or other duties.

· Tutorship positions are also available at the start of each semester.

There is no separate application for financial assistance. The application packet evaluates candidates for both admission and financial aid opportunities. Admission to the graduate programs and awards of financial aid are highly competitive. The department evaluates applications and credentials for financial aid from the applicant pool at various times when resources become available, but apply early for the fullest consideration. You are further encouraged to contact faculty members in specific research areas of interest to you.
