Currently,
the IUPUI robotics team has two robots. Paydar is a super
heavyweight that has competed in Battlebots Season 5.0. Due
to our experience at Battlebots, we decided we needed a sparring
partner to develop driving skills, and Targetbot was born.
Paydar
is an attempt to maximize speed and maneuverability for robotic
combat. Targetbot is, well, Targetbot is looking forward to
a life of abuse. Paydar was first designed over the course
of a semester by a 13-student
senior design group, and then manu-factured over a semester
with the help of several sponsors with the latest manufacturing
technology. Targetbot was designed by two guys on the back
of a pizza box and then manufactured over a couple of weekends,
occasionally using a ruler (as a paper weight, or to prop
things up).
This fall another senior design team is at work designing
a third robot for the lightweight or middleweight class. We
hope to bring Paydar and our unnamed third robot to competition
this spring. Targetbot will stay home. |
