from the American University in Cairo, Cairo Egypt, and his M.Sc. in Materials
Engineering from the same university in 1992. He received his Ph.D (in
manufacturing) in 1997 from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
He joined IUPUI in August 1997 as Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering.
He is a member of ASME and ASEE.
Current Research Areas
Dr. El-Mounayri research interests fall in the general area of Advanced
Manufacturing. This include Intelligent maching, CNC machining, CAD/CAM
, CAD/CAM integration with the production machine. Enhancement of existing
CAD/CAM technology, Solid Modeling based applications, Machining process
simulation, control and optimization, and Automation. The ultimate objective
of this research is to improve the safety and reliability of the manufacturing
operation, increase productivity, enhance the quality of the final product
and automate the production cycle. This responds to the current needs of
several sectors of the machining industry, such as Automotive, Aerospace
and Die/Mold making.
