## The base of a number can be indicated either by a

## suffix:

- d for decimal (the default),
- b for binary, or
- h for hexadecimal,

- or a prefix:
- $ for hexadecimal,
- % for binary, or
- for decimal (no prefix).

Note that when the suffix notation is used, hexadecimal numbers must start with a digit in the range 0 through 9.

The number base is decimal by default. The default base can be changed using the assembler directive “base” followed by an expression indicating the base to be used. Valid bases are 2, 8, 10 and 16.
