A/D: Parallel Converters
A parallel converter consists of a bank of comparators.
- Each comparator has a distinct analog reference signal.
- The number of comparators switched ON indicates the input signal level.
- Combinational circuitry converts the converter outputs to the equivalent binary signal.
Advantage: parallelism ==> speed.
Disadvantage: number of comparators reqd. is 2^n-1 where n is the number of channels.
