Serial communication Interface (SCI)
Transmit and receive on the SCI of a computer do not need to occur at the same time.
Many variations on SCI have been implementated.
Some SCIs are augmented by adding handshaking signals so as to be compatible with RS232 protocol.
(RS232 is a very common protocol for computer communication.)
Some SCIs are augmented by adding clock signals to support synchronous data communication.
