Memory modules can be constructed from smaller chips as needed.
A memory map is used to make sure that each memory address corresponds to a unique memory location.
To address memory on specific chips, the address lines are partitioned into those that change while addressing locations on the chip and those that don't.
Address decoding circuitry uses logic to select the appropriate chip based on the values of the address lines that do not change while memory on a specific chip is accesssed.
