Spinach(Palak)

Moong dhal (yellow)

Urad Dhal

½ teaspoon

½ teaspoon

Method

 

1.      Wash the spinach in cold water and drain it well.

 

2.      Cut spinach evenly and slit the garlic.

 

3.      Wash the moong dhal and keep it in a vessel that goes into the pressure cooker.

 

4.      Add 1/2 teaspoon of cummin seeds,red chillies, garlic,spinach,1/2 cup water and  salt in that order to moong dhal and pressure cook all the ingredients together for 4 whistles or 5 minutes.

 

5.      Remove from the cooker and smash with a spatula.

 

6.      Heat the oil in a sauce pan and add cummin seeds and urad dhal.

 

7.      When it splutters pour the spinach mixture into it.

 

8.      Allow to boil for 2 minutes and it becomes quite thick.Off the stove.

 

9.      Transfer to a serving dish.

 

 

Tips

 

·         Don’t pour too much water to the spinach when keeping inside the pressure cooker otherwise it will lose it’s consistency.

·         This dish should be served with ghee and rice.

·         It is very good for kids.
