The IUPUI Testing Center is collaborating with the Department of Computer and Information Technology (CIT) to offer the CIT 10600 test out. Authorization is required before the testing center will allow you to register.  Go to Request Authorization for more details and procedures.

The test out consists of hands-on exercises in Windows XP, Word 2007, Access 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Excel 2007, and File Management. You will be allotted 4 hours to complete the test and can sign up for start times with the IUPUI Testing Center.

 

You must earn no lower than a 75% on the test overall. In addition, you must earn a minimum of 75% for each section. Sections consist of Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, and File Management.

 

The task list located at http://www.engr.iupui.edu/~stevens/cit106/cit106tasklistforoffice2007.htm identifies the tasks you might be expected to complete to pass the test out.

They are being revised and updated during Fall 2008. Video lectures supporting the textbook are available at http://www.engr.iupui.edu/~stevens/cit106/videolecturetopicswithurl.htm. We also suggest you do an internet search for Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2007 tutorials which many universities and Microsoft have created. You will need Windows Media Player to view the video lectures and tutorials.

You will receive an “S” as the grade on your transcript for CIT 10600, a three-credit hour course. A traditional letter grade is not available.

Special Credit Processing

To learn more about Special Credit go to http://registrar.iupui.edu/specred.html.

·          Academic unit sends the special credit form to the Registrar office.

·          Registrar’s Office completes the matriculation date & adds the course/credit to the student record.

·          Registrar’s Office will forward a portion of the special credit form to the Bursar’s Office.

·          Bursar’s Office will determine charges and post them to student’s bursar account.

·          Student will need to pay the bill by the assigned due date on the bill.  If students do not pay, they will be encumbered for the past due balance.

The Testing Center charges students $25 to take the test out payable to the Testing Center at the time of the test out.  This fee is separate  from the fees the bursar’s office charges.

If the credit is awarded as the result of an examination and the application is:

·          For a beginning student within the first three semesters following matriculation*, there is no charge.

·          For a first semester* transfer student, there is a nominal fee per credit hour.

·          If neither of the above, the standard credit hour resident or nonresident rate will be assessed.

*The date used to determine the student’s status is that when the Special Credit form is processed in the offices of the Registrar and Bursar. Current fees (as appropriate) are charged in cases where the examination was taken in a preceding year.

·          You can only take the CIT 10600 test out one time.

·          You cannot take the test out during a semester when you are enrolled in CIT 10600.

·          You cannot take the test out if CIT 10600 appears on your transcript.

·          If you are enrolled in CIT 10600 this semester, you must withdraw by the last day for full refunds so CIT 10600 does not appear on your transcript.

·          Read through this announcement to determine if you want to take the test out.

·          Send an email from your official IUPUI email address to nanevans@iupui.edu requesting approval to take the test out.

·          Ensure the email subject line reads CIT 10600 Test Out Request.

·          Ensure your student ID is included in the body of the email.

·          Once you are approved, the CIT 10600 course coordinator will notify you and the IUPUI Testing Center of your authorization to take the test out.  You may then contact the IUPUI Testing Center at 274-2620 or at http://in-paii-tcweb.ads.iu.edu/external/cit/106.asp  to schedule a time to take the test out.
