The IUPUI Testing Center is collaborating with the Department of Computer and Information Technology (CIT) to offer the CIT 106 test out.

 

Below is information about the test out. Once you have reviewed it, please send an email using your official IUPUI email address with the requested information to Jan Stevens, CIT 106 Course Coordinator, at janstev@iupui.edu to get approval to take the test out. Approval is required before the testing center will allow you to register.

The test out consists of hands-on exercises in Windows XP, Word 2003 , Access 2003, PowerPoint 2003, Excel 2003, and File Management. You will be allotted 3 hours to complete the test and can sign up for start times between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

 

You must earn no lower than a 75% on the test overall. In addition, you must earn a minimum of 75% for each section. Sections consist of Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, and File Management.

 

The task list located at http://www.engr.iupui.edu/~stevens/cit106f05/tasklist_f05.htm shows the kinds of tasks you might be expected to complete to pass the test out.

 

Tutorials are available at http://www.iupui.edu/~cpt106/tutorials.htm. You will need Windows Media Player 9 to view the video tutorials. Typically, Excel and Access cause the biggest challenges.

You will receive an “S” as the grade on your transcript and three credit hours if you pass the CIT 106 Test Out. A traditional letter grade is not available if you pass the test out.

 

Special Credit Processing

 

1.       Academic unit sends the special credit form to the Registrar office.

2.       Registrar’s Office completes the matriculation date & adds the course/credit to the student record.

3.       Registrar Office’s will forward a portion of the special credit form to the Bursar’s Office.

4.       Bursar’s Office will determine charges based on information below and post to student’s bursar account.

5.       Student will receive a bill in the mail for the charges, if appropriate.

6.       Student will need to pay the bill by the assigned due date on the bill.  If students do not pay, they will be encumbered for the past due balance.

There is no fee to take the test out.  Consult the Bursar’s Office to find out the fee if you pass the test out. Test out fees are nominal during the first two semesters of a student’s IUPUI academic career. Students can expect to be charged the regular cost of the class if they take the test out after their third IUPUI semester. See Special Credit Processing for more details.

Assessment of fees (from Bursar's web site)

If the credit is awarded as a result of credentials or experience, the fee will be assessed at the nominal rate per credit hour, not to exceed the 5 hour rate.

If the credit is awarded as the result of an examination and the application is:

  1. For a beginning student within the first three semesters following matriculation*, there is no charge.
  2. For a first semester* transfer student, there is a nominal fee per credit hour.
  3. If neither of the above, the standard credit hour resident or nonresident rate will be assessed.
