Application Procedures for New Students Participating in CITIDOE (updated July 2009)

CITIDOE Enrollment Information

The CITIDOE dual-credit program is offered at IUPUI in the Department of Computer and Information Technology (CIT) within the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology. Go to http://cit.iupui.edu/citidoe to learn more about the program.

For students to participate in the CITIDOE dual-credit program, a business teacher in the local school corporation needs to serve as a trained facilitator for the student(s) overseeing student progress. IUPUI provides the facilitator training.  All courses in the program are taught entirely online by an IUPUI Computer and Information Technology (CIT) professor. High school students have all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of other IUPUI students. Benefits include a 50% tuition break, access to the university’s web-based course management system, and various software applications which are available to all IUPUI students.

In order to enroll in the program, students need to apply to IUPUI’s SPAN CyberTEEN’s honors program instead of the university enrollment center.

CITIDOE Curriculum

Please visit the CITIDOE website http://cit.iupui.edu/citidoe, curriculum and course crosswalk link, for listing of CIT courses and corresponding Business, Marketing and IT(BMIT) and Career Technical Education(CTE) courses.

Complete a New Student Notification Form

The purpose of this form is to notify the CITIDOE director of new students applying to the program so that it is easier to track their applications. This is not a substitute for applying to the program through the SPAN Office. The form is available at http://cit.iupui.edu/citidoe, contact us, New Student Notification Form.

Acceptance

The CITIDOE director will notify the high school teacher (also known as a facilitator) when SPAN has admitted or denied admission to students.

Account Setup and Registration

The CITIDOE director provides the high school teacher (also known as a facilitator) account setup and registration instructions for the students. Students must set up their own technology accounts and register themselves for their courses.

Paying for the Course

The Bursar’s Office handles student billing. Once a student is registered, the Bursar will send a bill electronically to the student through OneStart with payment instructions. Facilitators receive OneStart training. They, in turn, will train their CITIDOE students.

Tuition and Fees

Spring 2009 tuition for CITIDOE 3-credit-hour, dual-credit courses was about $260. Realize that tuition and fees are set by the university and are subject to change. The CIT department will not add additional fees.

Textbooks

Textbooks can run from $80-$100+ per course. The professor will inform students and facilitators of specific textbook titles.

Transferability of Credits

J.R. Russell, B.S.W., Ph.D., Th.D.SPAN Division Coordinator, jrrussel@iupui.edu says this about credits transferring to other schools:

“In the 10 years that I have served with SPAN, we have enjoyed a 100% transfer rate.  Since students are building an actual IU transcript by enrolling in official college courses taught by college professors, no university has had an issue with accepting credits.Even so, we do encourage all SPAN participants to contact their intended college of choice to learn of its transfer policies. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions.  I hope we are able to accommodate your students through the CIT initiative!”

Miscellaneous

Note: When a student completes a college course, credit will be granted and will appear on an IUPUI transcript.  Certificates will be awarded upon completion of all six courses, upon earning a high school diploma, and upon enrolling as a degree-seeking student at IUPUI. SPAN students are classified as nondegree-seeking students.  College credits can appear on transcripts for nondegree-seeking students but certificates and degrees can only be listed for degree-seeking students.
