Charles H. Turner, Ph.D.            

Chancellor's Professor of Biomedical Engineering
    and Orthopaedic Surgery

Dr. Turner received his Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering from Tulane University in 1987 and joined the faculty at Indiana University in 1991 after four years with the Osteoporosis Research Center at Creighton University. He has won numerous awards for his research in musculoskeletal biomechanics and bone biology, including grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Fuller Albright Award from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and Outstanding Young Investigator Awards from the Whitaker Foundation and the Health Future Foundation.  In 2002 Dr. Turner was elected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineers.


Dr. Turner has served as a consultant in biomechanics and orthopaedic science for the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, National Research Council, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Food and Drug Administration, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Swiss National Science Foundation, Austrian Science Fund, Israel Science Foundation and the Wellcome Trust (England). He has published over 400 scientific papers and abstracts on topics in biomechanics, bone biology, and orthopaedic science, and has given over 100 invited presentations on research topics in musculoskeletal biomechanics worldwide.
